As we approach the conclusion of 2025, the Latin American and Caribbean Consortium on Dementia (LAC-CD) proudly celebrates its 10th anniversary, a decade of collaborative scientific advancement and regional integration. Founded as an initiative by Dr. Agustín Ibáñez and Dr. Mario Parra, LAC-CD has evolved into a transformative platform that unites researchers, clinicians, and institutions across Latin America and the Caribbean to address the complex challenges of dementia from a culturally and contextually relevant perspective. Over these ten years, the consortium has experienced a remarkable trajectory of growth across a multitude of initiatives that span the entire region, propelled by the concerted efforts of an ever-expanding network of dedicated researchers and partner countries. These advancements have been made possible through the unwavering support, tireless dedication, and collective commitment of our regional community, as well as the invaluable contributions of our esteemed collaborators. This cohesive and dynamic endeavor exemplifies the synergistic integration of diverse expertise and resources, fueling sustained progress in knowledge generation, innovation, and translational impact within the field of brain health and dementia research in Latin America.
In 2024, Dr. Claudia Duran-Aniotz and Dr. Hernando Santamaría-García assumed leadership as LAC-CD coordinators. Looking ahead, 2025 already holds the promise of being another dynamic year for LAC-CD, marked by the launch of several regional and international initiatives. A key priority will be strengthening the epigenetics network, advancing its development, and conducting a comprehensive survey. Notably, we have already published a paper on this topic in Alzheimer’s & Dementia, highlighting our progress and contributions in the field.
